frequently asked questions

classes / play

  • Do you charge for the playspace?

    • NO - it's free! :) Daily storytime at 9am is also free! (yay!)

  • Do you have classes every day?

    • Check out our class list here. We have classes every day for a small fee... and we add other little events all the time!

  • How do I sign up for classes?

    • Sign up in advance here or just walk in!

  • Is the playspace open while classes are taking place?

    • Yes - the playspace is always open (except rare cases on Sat/Sun between 11am-1pm for events).

  • Can I just drop off my child for class and leave the cafe?

    • Unfortunately, no. You have to remain in the cafe during the classes. We may one day offer drop off, but not yet!

  • What ages are the classes best for?

    • All classes are for all ages - and we've had kids from 1-12 years join! We try to teach to the kid, and it's helpful for parents to help us if the kid is younger. STEM example: one week we did a “pasta tower” and learned how to build a structure from marshmallows/grapes and dried pasta. The older kids probably got a bit more from the “lesson” and were able to build some bigger structures independently, but all the kids had a good time and built something!

  • Do you want me to sit with my child during class?

    • It's up to you! Unless your child is young enough that they may - for example - eat the supplies... then yes - please do.

  • How do you keep the playspace open during classes?

    • We have a separate area with tables for some of the classes (e.g. crafts, STEM), and then we use the tables as a barrier to separate the two areas (play vs class) for other classes (e.g. music).

  • Can you tell me exactly what you're doing each week in each class?

    • Sometimes! :/ We have descriptions on the website sign-up page at least a week in advance, plus we often post teasers on our Instagram stories - follow us there!

  • Do we have to take our shoes off in the playspace?

    • No - totally up to you.

  • Can we eat in the playspace?

    • Yes - but please keep the food at the tables and clean up after yourself (and your littles!).

  • Can I buy a set of classes?

    • YES! Come into our shop to get the cutest little class pass that's packaged like a gift! Comes in sets of 5 ($25) or 10 ($50) classes!

food/ retail

  • Where is your menu?

    • The menu is linked here so feel free to call or come in!

  • Do you offer pick up?

    • YES! Order ONLINE (and even do curbside pick up!) or give us a call. Our online ordering can be found here! You can even order a CRAFT kit!

  • Do you deliver?

    • Yes! Right now, our only delivery services are through Uber Eats + Grubhub! It works super well and we've put our entire menu (and CRAFTS) on their site, but know that there is a fee on these third party sites. We'll have more to come in the future too!

  • Where is your coffee from?

    • You guessed it...it's LOCAL! We get our beans from Infusion (in Tempe) for most of our drinks. Except the cold brew...we get kegs directly from Sweetz Cold Brew (in Gilbert)!

  • Where are all the goodies from??

    • We LOVE to work with local vendors for our retail section... so nearly all of what you see is made by folks in Arizona!

  • How do you select vendors?

    • Honestly, we mostly just sell what we love! It's fun to be an owner! :)

  • How do I become a vendor?

  • What are the requirements to be a vendor?

    • We don't have hard and fast requirements, but again - we do like to work with local AZ vendors! We also don't like to sell similar items from two different vendors. We also evaluate things like price point when determining if you'd be a good fit!

  • Do you sell on consignment?

    • No. We purchase the goods and then take the responsibility of re-selling them.

other

  • Can I host my event in your space?

    • YES! We rent the space after hours, and our standard package is 4 hours (which includes set up, 2 hour party, and clean up) and includes two baristas to assist. For more info, go fill out the form on our "private parties" page and we'll get back to you within 24 hours.

  • For a private party, can I bring my own....?

    • Yes - if you reserve the space after hours, you can bring your own food, drink, decor! Or if you want our help, we can coordinate for you instead! We'd love to chat about the possibilities! :)

  • Can I reserve tables for a large group instead?

  • Are dogs allowed?

    • Outside - yes! Inside - no. For food safety reasons, we can't have dogs inside at all, but we do have outdoor seating in front and back!

  • What else are you doing for dogs?

    • We LOVE dogs! We have: water bowls outside, free treats at the front counter, $1 puppuccinos at the bar, some fancy / cute / yummy treats for purchase from Dogs Eating Cake!

  • Are you giving back?

    • Definitely! This is very important to us - both to actually give back and to teach our kids to give back. We find it easy to weave into various holidays - so look our for our calendars and events to participate.

    • So far we've partnered with Wish Upon a Book to get books to kids in low income neighborhoods, Angels for Paws to collect donated pet supplies + host an adoption event, a local senior center to get valentines to seniors and their caregivers, and a virtual event with the Scottsdale firefighters... more coming too!

    • And of course -- you can always shoot us a question if you don't see what you're looking for!

  • Will you advertise with us? Will you sponsor our event? Will you donate to our cause?

    • It depends! Due to a lot of competing requests, we need to evaluate this on a case by case basis - so please email laura@cafeauplait.com with your request!

covid

  • What are you doing to keep us safe?

    • If you prefer not to come inside, we still have online ordering and curbside pickup available! We have plenty of outdoor seating, and we're happy to bring anything outside for you - even retail! :)

    • Inside, our employees are wearing masks if they are not fully vaccinated, we have contactless payment, we have free hand sanitizer stations, we're providing the ability for customers to socially distance, and we're cleaning all the time!

  • What do you expect from customers?

    • Stay home if you're sick.

    • Respect others' space.

    • BE KIND.

  • Wait what about masks?

    • Masks are not required with the vaccine now widely available.
  • Really? I have thoughts on this!
    • We know that the ONE THING that we can all agree on is that any decision I make about masks will deeply offend someone at this point, so I'm sorry if that is you. We know that not every might agree, but we're following CDC guidance. And again, we ask you to PLEASE BE KIND to one another despite the strength of your feelings one way or another. Your feelings and opinions 100% matter to us (and if you need to be upset, please do it with me and NOT OUR BARISTAS), but remember that literally everyone has opinions and feelings, and they matter too.
